Dentures for Better Health
Most
times it is best to consider complete dentures, or partial dentures
to replace missing teeth when there are no other options. If you have lost
several teeth, or all your teeth due to periodontal disease, tooth decay, poor
dental hygiene or even a traumatic injury.
It is very important to your health to replace missing teeth. The effects of
not replacing them could result in shift of any remaining teeth, an inability to
bite or chew which can have an ill effect on your physical health, and a sagging
facial appearance which can make you look older than you are.
Replacing missing teeth early can reduce these problems and help to keep you
looking young and feeling better.
There are several types of dentures including;
- Complete Denture Set
- Partial Dentures
- Implant Dentures
Complete Dentures
Complete Dentures requires pulling any remaining or unhealthy teeth if needed
and fitting your mouth with a complete denture set on the top and bottom.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are used if there is several remaining healthy teeth. If
this is the case, the remaining health teeth are prepared and a mold of your
mouth is taken. The partial dentures will then be fitted to support the
remaining healthy teeth.
Implant Dentures
Implant Dentures are titanium devices that are placed into the jawbone. They
act as an anchor to provide a solid base for the Dentures. Implants are usually
performed under local anesthesia.
The wonderful thing today is that Dentures are designed to be comfortable and
functional as well. They are very real in appearance to natural teeth and can
improve your facial appearance and improve your overall health as well.

Denture Costs
The cost of dentures depends on several factors, including:
- The possible requirement of an additional procedure such as extractions
of remaining teeth or oral surgery to refine bony ridges.
- A prosthodontist specializes in crafting dentures and may charge more
for his services.
- The type of dental insurance you have.
- The complexity of the removable denture that is required.
- Dental materials selected by the patient and the dentist. For example,
highly cross-linked polymer denture teeth are more esthetic and do not wear
as much as conventional plastic teeth and are more expensive. There are
different metals that can be used in removable partial dentures that may
also increase the cost.
- The type of warranty offered. Some warranties may be for one to two
years, while others may run up to 10 years.
Complete dentures can range in price from $300 to $8,000. The difference in
cost is related to the fabrication time, cost of dental materials, and the
experience of the dentist. An average fitting may take 15 hours and five to six
appointments to complete the process of making complete dentures.
The cost range does not include fees associated with possible oral surgery or
tooth extraction. Depending on the type of dental insurance you have, insurance
companies may offer a 15% reimbursement or up to a 50% absorption of the total
procedure costs.
